Ragging in any form is a violation of human dignity and is strictly prohibited within the premises of Government Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial Degree College, Budgam, as well as at any place outside the campus connected to its students. The college is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and harassment-free environment where every student can pursue their education with confidence and peace of mind.
In accordance with the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, ragging is treated as a serious offence and is punishable under law. It includes any act, whether physical, verbal, or psychological, that causes embarrassment, fear, humiliation, or distress to a student, particularly newcomers, by a senior or fellow student.
The college upholds a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. We believe that every student, irrespective of background, deserves to be treated with dignity, kindness, and respect. Seniors are expected to mentor and guide their juniors, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie rather than intimidation.
Ragging not only inflicts emotional and physical trauma on victims but also tarnishes the spirit of unity and brotherhood that an academic institution should embody. As a community of learners, we are bound by a shared responsibility to protect one another, build genuine friendships, and create a campus culture rooted in empathy, mutual respect, and collective growth. Reporting an incident of ragging is not betrayal — it is an act of courage that protects a fellow student and upholds the values of our institution.
Students who experience or witness any incident of ragging are strongly encouraged to report it immediately. Don't be a silent victim. Don't be a silent bystander. Your prompt action can prevent further harm and ensure strict action against the offenders.
